Florence Kasumba Is The First Afro-German Female Detective on German TV Crime Show

November 10, 2018

Florence Kasumba already played small roles in Hollywood Blockbusters such as “The Avengers” and “Black Panther“. Now she picked up a lead role as a detective in “Tatort”, Germany’s longest-running TV Show.

Here is an Interview about her role in “Black Panther.”

Florence Kasumba is from Kampala, Uganda and grew up in Essen, Germany. Initially, the actress and singer played several roles in musicals such as “King Lion”, “Evita” and “Cats”, just to name some. Later she plays the main role in Elton John’s “Aida”.

Kasumba plays alongside Maria Furtwängler, a very famous German actress, and together they combat crime in Göttigen, which is a city in Germany.

Although she played in the series before, she only got small roles; she was a cleaning woman, an immigrant, so to say, a suspect, but not an investigator.

“Being here now is a dream come true,” said Kasumba about her experience on the cult show, in which she is the first black lead detective to come up.
