The Netflix original film has been submitted for the “Best International Feature Film” category, being Nigeria’s first-ever entry to the Oscars.
Last year, Netflix surprisingly picked up Genevieve Nnaji’s “Lion Heart” which became the first Netflix original film to come out of Nigeria’s huge film industry. Nollywood is the second biggest film industry in the world, producing 50 films per week.
“Lion Heart” tells the story of Adaeze, a young woman who takes the responsibility of running the family business due to her father’s illness. Adaeze has to face different matters such as sexism in the workplace and at the same time, she tries to save the business from financial ruin.
Starring in Nnaji´s directional debut is Nkem Owoh, Pete Edochie, and Onyeka Onwenu. Genevieve Nnaji herself plays the main role of Adaeza.
